Adam Carolla is a funny man, so if you enjoy his style of comedy you’re going to get your money’s worth of laughs out of this book (especially if you get it on sale for two bucks like I did; bargain hunter, yo!).
But having said that, I have to say that the book wasn’t everything I hoped it would be. President Me is billed as Carolla’s platform for his hypothetical run for the presidency. Since he often delivers semi-serious commentary on life and politics, I was hoping the book would be semi-serious, wrapped in a healthy layer of sarcasm.
In the end, though, the premise of a presidential platform is there just to provide the thinnest tread to tie together a collection of anecdotes and stand-up material which may or may not have anything to do with politics.
Also, buyer beware: the language is very coarse. This is no surprise coming from Carolla; it’s just his style. But I had to stop listening to his podcast because, man, the steady stream of profanity wears me down. It has the same effect on me as talking to someone who thinks they have to say everything at full volume. Of course, a lot of people like yelling; the programming on news channels is 90% yelling. Your mileage may vary.
