Every year for the last few years, I’ve made a New Year’s resolution to try to read as many books as my wife. And every year she laps me like I’m pushing a shopping cart with a bad wheel on the track at Talladega.
This year I decided I was going to get serious and really try to keep up with her. I got started on a good book early in the year, felt like I was doing well, and then while I was reading the plot summary on the book jacket flap, she finished her third book and started on her fourth. We didn’t keep an official count, but even though I read a lot of books this year, I probably read less than half as many as she did.
But even after the years of brutal beatings (literarily speaking), I’m back for more. That’s why 2017 will be the year of the Literacy Throwdown!
Starting January 1, we’re going to keep track of the books we read and take a tally at the end of the year to determine the 2017 Literacy Throwdown Champion! Maybe there will be a tshirt!
The benefit to you, dear reader, will be the higher volume of book reviews that will appear here that maybe you can use to make your own leisure reading choices. I’ll even try to post reviews of Rachel’s books based on what she tells me about them while she’s reading, if I can type that fast.
And feel free to to throw me any suggestions for books to read. I’ll need them.
How will it go? Can I keep up with the reading elite? Will I dominate like everyone thinks Ronda Rousey will? Or will I get consistently clobbered like Ronda Rousey really does? Let’s find out! Feel the bookishness!
